2022-2023 Scholarship Applications Will Be Available on August 1, 2022

We are excited to award two $500 Ben Harris Cultural Scholarship Awards to two students from area high schools who plan to graduate in Spring 2022 and will attend a two- or four-year college or university. Our 2021 scholarship winners are listed below. Help us congratulate them on their accomplishments and wish them the best of luck in the future!

Nyla Reiss

My name is Nyla Reiss. I’m a senior at John L. Leflore High School where I’m in the Law signature academy. I am a very active student in my school: member of National Honor Society, Technical National Honor Society, Leflore’s Academic ambassador’s President, Student Government Association’s Treasurer, Pre- Law’s President, Varsity Cheer Captain, and Homecoming Queen. As well as a role model in my community: educating 7th and 8th graders on social difficulties, interning at Mobile District Attorney’s Office, and working on community service projects with Sparking Jewels of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. My future plans are to go to a 4-year college to get a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. After undergraduate school I plan on attending Howard University to get my Juris Doctorate degree.

Jamaica Knight

My name is Jamaica Knight. I am a senior at John L Leflore High School. I am a member of National Honor Society & Leflore’s Academic Ambassadors. In my spare time I like to travel & spend time with family. After high school I plan to go to college for cosmetology & become a dental assistant.
